Is it us, or does the Christmas break already seem like ages ago? If you feel the same, then it’s probably time to plan a mini break in Devon. If you need any persuading, we’re offering three nights for the price of two during February!

With beautiful scenery and an abundance of natural beauty, spending a long weekend at The Globe could be just what you need to chase away the winter blues. Located on the main road between Kingsbridge and the historic naval town of Dartmouth, The Globe is perfectly located to serve as your base while you explore the beautiful villages and stunning countryside of the South West.

Here’s some of our top places to visit in the surrounding area:

Dartmoor National Park

Steven Spielberg said, “I have never before been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty" when he was based here to direct his film War Horse.

As you drive through the park, you will encounter dramatic landscapes, striking granite tors, heather covered moorland and adorable villages. Whether you are seeking tranquillity or the opportunity to be active, Dartmoor has it all. Look out for the iconic wild Dartmoor ponies too, who have been grazing the land since AD1012!

Overbeck's Museum and Garden

Spread across seven acres, this hidden paradise includes subtropical gardens and an Edwardian museum house showcasing historical objects and quirky collections amassed by the property’s last owner, British chemist Otto Overbeck.

The museum includes some of Overbeck's inventions, model sailing ships, various nautical and shipbuilding tools, as well as collections of stuffed animals, and a display of doll houses kept behind a secret door. Be sure to visit the tea room for a variety of snacks including chunky crab sandwiches and Devonshire cream teas.

Overbeck’s is open from February 11th, click here to learn more here.

Totnes Good Food Sunday Market

Visit Devon's biggest fine food farmers' market held on the third Sunday of each month throughout the year. With a reputation of offering a wide range of quality produce from dozens of local suppliers, you are sure to find an array of delicious foods and snacks to enjoy.

East Portlemouth to Gara Rock Trail

If a good old-fashioned walk is more your speed then step out along the coastal path, from the Salcombe Estuary and soon you’ll be enjoying sweeping vistas of the open sea.

Along the way, you’ll pass the quiet beach of East Portlemouth, the sheltered beach at Mill Bay and the Famous Five cove of Rickham Sand. This walk is sure to put the wind back in your winter sails. Afterwards, stop in the seaside town of Salcombe for a refreshing drink and to pop in some of the local shops.
